Dededo - Sprawling Northern Village

Perched on the coral plateau of Northern Guam is the village of Dededo. The 30 square mile area is the most populated of all the villages on the island, sprawling with an estimated 46,000 residents in 2004.

If you want to get a head start on shopping, the Dededo Flea Market is open bright and early so that you can get first dibs on the freshest produce and great bargains on many items. The village is also home to the Dededo Mall, Compadres Mall, the islands first Cost-U-Less and Micronesia Mall, the largest mall in Micronesia. It is also host to numerous supermarkets, churches and schools, as well as the Guam Sports Complex, Guam International Country Club, Starts Guam Golf Resort and U.S. Naval Computer & Telecommunications Station (NCTS).

Because Dededo borders Yigo to the northwest, Tamuning to the southwest, and Barrigada and Mangilao to the southeast, it is easy to reach these locations by car, enjoy more shopping in Tamuning, have an adventure at nearby Tanguissan Beach or pay a visit to the Guam National Wildlife Refuge at Ritidian Point. It has a visitor’s center, an ancient Chamorro village and a pristine white sand beach with lots of shade under groves of coconut trees for picnics and barbeques. If you have children, then living in Dededo will be perfect. The village has a new 11,000 square foot skate park, a branch of the Guam Public Library, as well as many private and public schools.

Dededo is home to Astumbo, Finegayan, Juan M. Guerrero, Maria A. Ulloa and Wettengel Elementary Schools, Vicente S.A. Benavente Middle School, Santa Barbara Catholic School, St. Paul’s Christian School and Pacific Christian Academy. To accommodate the growth in Guam’s most populated village, three new public schools, Liguan Elementary School, Astumbo Middle School and Okkodo High School, opened in Fall 2008. A fourth public school, Adacao Elementary School, is currently under construction and scheduled for completion by next school year.
