Agat, Guam Real Estate – Quaint Sun-filled Seaside Village of Agat
A striking array of tropical tones fills the sky at this quaint seaside village south of Apra Harbor where you can see breathtaking sunsets at the Agat Marina. Hågat is where an estimated 4,515 residents call home.
During the United States liberation of Guam on July 21, 1944, Ga’an Point in Agat played a key role as one of the southern landing sites of the American forces. Agat was also a military garrison during the Spanish Era colonization in the 1600’s.
Historically Hågat has proudly withstood many such trials including its destruction during World War II. With help from the U.S. Military, Agat was rebuilt, thus the new Agatseaside village emerged. What was once the bustling center of island activity in the 1930’s, home to the Pan American Hotel and air service via the Pan American Clipper, Old Sumay, Agat is now home to a large U.S. Navy base, making the new Agat village and neighboring Santa Rita and Apra Heights perfect places to find off-base housing for those in the military.
Living in Agat, you’ll find yourself winding down to a relaxing slow pace. The people here are very friendly and welcoming. The vibe in Hågat is quaint old town charm. The village has great TLA accommodations at Agat Inn on the Bay, located right on the beach as you enter the village. As a resident, you will frequent the Agat Small Boat Harbor, home to a popular dock side restaurant right on the marina. Other village attractions include Sagan Bisita, a festive night market located next to the community center which features local food and produce and the Annual Mango Festival, a favorite of both locals and tourists alike, featuring booths, concessions, cultural performances, live music, games and everything Mango. Savor delights such as mango donuts, pickled mango, mango preserves and mango smoothies.
Rich in history, here in Agat you will find the Talifak Bridge, also known as the Old Spanish Bridge, which was used during the Galleon Trade and part of the road that linked Agat to the Spanish capital of Umatac. You will also find Apaca Point, with a WWII pillbox built into the rock sticking out to the water, and Ga’an Point, where you can find two camouflaged Japanese bunkers and gun posts, both part of the War in the Pacific National Historic Park.
If you seek adventure, trek down to Sella Bay, a popular hiking spot, where you will find ancient Chamorro Latte Stones and a bridge and oven from the Spanish Era. End the trek with a dip in the bay before you venture back.
Real estate in this area is mostly made up of residential single-family homes, rural lots and larger tracts with some retail and commercial buildings along Route No. 2, the main highway that runs along the scenic coastline.
